Football unites all races and people, but rarely have we seen football become intelligence tool for the law enforcement institution. When celebrating the successes and goals of our various clubs; there is no limit to what we can do or how wild the celebrations could go.
Napoli might have happily won the Serie A and brought the cup back after three decades of failed attempts, but while they drink and dance, a fan is regretting that day – the final match of Serie A season, when the cup was handed over to the club.
In the Greek Island of Corfu, a fan, but a fugitive, described as one of Italy’s ‘baddest’ man by the Interior Ministry, who goes by the name Vincenzo La Porta was at a restaurant when the Serie A outfit won the trophy. The joy of celebrating a trophy is always the bragging right – for rivals to know how it feels, but to the man in question, the celebration was his gateway to the prison.
At the balcony of a restaurant in Greece, Vincenzo was pictured by an innocent man who felt his energy worth sharing online. The picture was spotted online by “web patrols” police officers assigned to monitor social media for information gathering. He was later double-crossed on a motor scooter and picked up after a decade and one year of evading officers of the law.
According to Italian police;Vincenzo La Porta was formerly convicted in absentia of financial crimes and his pictures and information taken and put into book as one of Italy’s most wanted fugitive. The police has been trailing and vigorously searching for the fugitive they identified as “white collar” member of the Contini clan, associated or in affiliation with Camorra syndicate in Naples.

Betraying him was his passion for soccer and for the Napoli team” the Carabinieri, Italy’s police force said in a press statement that announced the arrest of the fugitive. The police further stated that there was no special effort on ground towards arresting him as it was a random procedure until the picture gave away his location.
The photo that gave him away, shared by the national police, showed the fugitive standing on the balcony, holding Napoli’s bright blue flags, and many football scarves. The fugitive had left Italy for Greece with the aim to evade prison; record of his travels was not made available to the police, even though he was closely monitored.
According to the Greek police, Greek officers made the arrest in Corfu in honor of European warrant made available by Italy’a prosecutor and forwarded through Interpol. With European warrant; Greek is bound to make the arrest and possibly extradite the fugitive.
The lawyer of the fugitive confirmed his arrest and indicated he has ailments and hoped “for the best tomorrow, for his family”
