Okuama Youths Didn’t Kill 16 Soldiers – We Know Who Killed Them – CDS
Nigeria’s Chief of Defence Staff has confirmed that Okuama youth didn’t kill the 16 soldiers who lost their lives after they allegedly went to the said community on a peace mission. The soldiers died while coming back from the community to Bomadi where they came from. They were killed and their guns carted away.
Their bodies were seized by their killers, few days later, the bodies were disposed in the river. Their corpses were later recovered while floating in the river. The death took the community by surprise, as they don’t have the capacity to fight or attack soldiers. Of all the people in the convoy, only soldiers were killed.
Immediately after the killing, information got to the Nigerian army and to the Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces. In reaction to the news, and without investigation, Nigerian army concluded that Okuama youth were responsible for the killing. President Bola Tinubu also delivered an endorsement speech that called for action against the youth of the community.
Nigerian army stormed the community and opened fire in what was tagged or rated genocidal. From the side of the community, information was released about how soldiers killed over 50 people at a spot. The onslaught against the community was massive to the point community members ran into the Bush while soldiers killed on sight. The killing lasted for days, while soldiers posted videos of arson.
Community groups began to raise alarm against the genocide being perpetrated by the Nigerian army, but in reaction, Nigerian army accused the community of blackmailing Nigerian army. The army insisted that the soldiers were killed by the youth of the community and that the community is shielding the culprits. The statement abetted, supported the onslaught, and soldiers mercilessly continued to murder innocent citizens of Okuama.
The narrative about those that killed the soldiers was passed hastily, without proper investigation to determine those truly behind the killing. That lack of investigation before speaking has wrongly cost scores of lives in Okuama. The people of Okuama are still besieged and killed, despite the new findings by the Chief of Defence Staff.
Speaking about the culprit, the CDS said “we know who did it, we are following up on him, and it is just a matter of time, we are sure that we are going to get him” Musa said of the now at large culprit in the murder.
“They took away our arms, we must get those arms back, and we must get these guys, so they would be prosecuted accordingly” the Chief of Defence Staff said. Narrowing the killers to a militant leader and his boys.
This confession is coming after many innocent people were wrongly killed in Okuama by the Nigerian army.
Nigerian soldiers have not apologised to the community yet, instead, they continued their siege on the community. The intelligence gathered by the military has extended the scopes of the operation to finding the killer, with the soldiers now operating in other communities and states.
The killer has left the community for the creeks, even though CDS is yet to disclose the location or name of the militant leader that carried out the attack.
