Senegal: African Political Leaders Love Power For Power Sake
Opinion By: Daily Tab24.
A once peaceful country is on an avoidable path to political violence, courtesy of Macky Sall’s hold on power he has used to enrich himself and his family, in what could be best described as primitive acquisition.
Problem began after the failed president refused to hold election as stipulated in the constitution of the country. There was no tangible reason for postponing the election, other than he wants to prepare the ground for the enthronement of his anointed candidate. In the moment, he feels the people of Senegal would jettison his anointed candidate, and postponement became a necessity to enable him politick his way to micky-mouse administration.
Corruption is part and parcel of politics in Africa, every corrupt leader often finds a way to cover corrupt tracks, by enthroning his appointed candidate, his corrupt activities would not be probed and the country will smoothly thrive in corrupt-bound trajectory. That is the reality of African child, who needs the government to shine like diamond in the sky.
Power will continue to entice African political leaders, but they cannot take time to study or learn the purpose of power. Most of these leaders believe in political power for bragging rights, for their protection, for self aggrandizement and for expression and wielding of power against enemies and oppositions in all spheres of life.
Senegal is burning. Protests are happening everywhere and youths are being killed for asking questions – asking why election was postponed. The youths yearn for stability, development and a future, but political leaders yearn for political opportunity to squander, accumulate and thrive in immoral, criminal and desperate consumption of the common wealth of African children.
While Macky Sall is authoritatively destroying Senegal, one wonders why a government with other arms well separated for check and balance behaves like dictatorship. It is the same cancer, while Sall criminally accrues; he shares among his apostles who fight for him in the legislative arm of the government. There is a culture of milking the state at the detriment of all Africans.
The love of power shown by Macky Sall is the selfishness that is inherent in all African political leaders, doing everything for their selves and their families, portraying the mentality that life is about me, my family and extended families. We have seen that to the political leaders, the lives lost on daily basis for their political ambition, immoral acquisition of the common wealth of the people don’t touch their consciences.
Macky Sall is on a mission to technically hold onto power and he is ready to destabilize Senegal, kill protesting youths and still go scot-free. Macky Sall is criminally going against the constitution that gave him the platform to serve and he doesn’t want that same opportunity for others he did not approve of. To him, being the president of Senegal is not about service, but about accumulating everything possible and planting a criminal warrior for his defense.
African political leaders can thrive in their corrupt enterprise because African children are still sleeping, but when morning will come, African children will wake to the reality of their future and fight like lions to regain the lost path to glory.
