IPOB members formed a political wing aimed at politically achieving autonomy like Scotland. Since the formation, there have been accusations and counter-accusations.
In this most recent press release, the new group tackled the wife of IPOB leader, who on her X account called the group faceless and claimed they don’t speak for Nnamdi Kanu.
Below is the full text of the press statement.
“It is pertinent to make a few things clear to Uchechi Okwu Kanu before she continues with her noise over the move IPOB-PW is making regarding the detention of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu and overall efforts to correct the mistake we all made and the land Biafra activities destroyed.
We will continue to fight to get Nnamdi Kanu out of detention because he misses his wife and clearly other children. IPOB is our organisation and also Nnamdi Kanu’s. As core members of IPOB, we refuse to keep quiet and continue to let things go wrong, because the cause of IPOB is the cause of Ndi Igbo, and no one man knows it all.
There is no other alternative to the political process for gaining autonomy in our land. Time has gone when killings and violence can give any desirable result. Our people have embraced IPOB-PW, and we will deliver.
Irrespective of what Uchechi says, we will continue to fight to get Nnamdi Kanu out of prison. We are doing it and doing other things to restore the dignity of Ndi Igbo, which was lost as a result of the Biafra that was wrongly championed by all of us, including Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.
We knew that Nnamdi Kanu ran out of the UK after Uchechi Okwu Kanu threatened to report him to the police due to a normal family misunderstanding. We are also aware that when Nnamdi Kanu was in Nigeria, he had issues with Uchechi Okwu Kanu, and Nnamdi Kanu was not living with her for years.
We understand he has been visiting Nnamdi Kanu, but her visit has produced nothing. She cannot do anything except be used by some unscrupulous elements to play internal IPOB politics of who gets all the donated funds.
We are not part of those who said she is into an extramarital relationship with the expelled lawyer of Nnamdi Kanu. We are not the group that fictionalised IPOB. So, she should carefully choose her words.
We won’t waste our time responding to Uchechi Okwu Kanu, but for the sake of the public she aims to mislead, we wish to clarify something.
IPOB Political Wing is not a faction of IPOB but the real IPOB, which has an ideology of political autonomy through peace and politics. We are solely fighting for autonomy within the confines of the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. We want to replicate what is today working in Scotland, where autonomy was achieved without bloodshed and insecurity.
We are not faceless and have nothing to fear because we are chasing a legitimate course, unlike those hiding and causing insecurity and destroying our land. Of course, we, the political wing of IPOB, are an organisation refined politically to achieve success.
It is also important to teach Uchechi Okwu Kanu the importance of politics. The world has gone past the days you kill, terrorise, and cause fear to achieve political independence. Sorry, you have to come down to the grassroots and, through the ballot box, achieve what you desire.
You either support a candidate, field a candidate, or declare interest to occupy political office. By occupying political office or politicking, autonomy can be achieved.
IPOB-PW has come to stay, and we are not faceless; rather, we are working assiduously behind social media. We are not in the usual business of coming to social media, making noise, and exploiting our people through donations.
We are not the IPOB that is founded on lies and continues to deceive our people with ‘Biafra is coming next year if you contribute money to us.’ We are not the party of defence funds and declaration. We are the party of practicality and results through hard work.
Uchechi should kindly focus on things that matter instead of continuing to think she is relevant. Nnamdi Kanu is in the hands of the government, and it can only take political intervention for him to be released.
Mazi Nnamdi Kanu cannot be released by shouting IPOB on X or making incendiary comments.
