Official: Monday Okpebholo wins the Edo State governorship contest

By Dailytab24.

The APC candidate for Edo State governorship election has officially been declared the winner of the governorship election contest.

His victory was confirmed after INEC declared the results for the 18 local government areas of the state.

The election was held on Saturday, and collation began since Saturday night and ended today. The declaration of a winner brings the contest to an official end.

Monday pulled a total of 291,667 votes to have been declared the winner of the election. His runner-up, Asue of the PDP, pulled a total of 247,655 while the Labour Party performed disappointedly.

The PDP supporters embarked on a protest to counter what they said was an election rigged in favour of the APC. Despite the protest, the Independent National Electoral Commission went on to declare a winner.

The declaration came in spite of the Independent National Electoral Commission’s promise to look into the complaints brought before it by party agents of other candidates.

The election has been adjudged to be one of the worst elections conducted so far in the state by the PDP and LP.

PDP accused INEC of not pronouncing the results, which were uploaded on its IREV. It further said the party will challenge the result by all means.

Earlier, PDP leadership urged INEC not to declare a winner until the complaints regarding the election were addressed or looked into.

Having declared a winner, the PDP and other parties that are not satisfied would have to prove their cases in the tribunal.
