By Dailytab24 Correspondent:
“I sincerely apologise for voting for President Bola Amed Tinubu and fighting for him. I was one of those who went around beating those who refused to vote or support Tinubu,” a staunch supporter of the president said.
A trend is here: supporters of President Bola Amed Tinubu are now speaking out against the president and declaring their regrets for voting for him.
The supporters and those who voted for the president, who have spoken out range from staunch to ordinary, and their regrets have been made public.
During the buildup to the election that produced President Bola Amed Tinubu, the country’s youths were divided along political lines.
While some Tinubu’s supporters were said to be ignorant for supporting him, others affirmed their support for the president on the ground that he performed well in Lagos and will make a good president if voted for.
The majority of Nigerian youths chose Peter Obi, whom they believe had the best interest of the country; they accused Tinubu of only wanting to enrich himself and his family.
The majority also said that they want a fresh breath of young politicians in the political system of the country; hence, they believed Peter Obi was the right choice for a younger generation taking over the political space of the country.
The older politicians were accused of causing the problems that had bedevilled the country since inception and also accused of corruption and mismanagement of the common wealth of the people.
The opposition to the old politicians became strong to the point campaigns were launched in the buildup to the election by the country’s youths to sensitise Nigerians against voting for the old politicians.
If only social media could win elections in Nigeria, Peter Obi would have had the highest percentage of votes, but Nigeria’s electoral system is complicated.
The election came and went, with Peter Obi emerging third, although, against the distant third that was projected, the Labour Party candidate came close third.
President Bola Amed Tinubu emerged victorious to the dismay of Nigerians who voted against the president.
The election was adjudged to be rigged by the youths, who couldn’t stop blaming the politicians in the country that staged the election against Peter Obi and largely favoured Tinubu.
The election was tagged the strangest of all elections in Nigeria, leading to voters believing that votes don’t count in Nigeria.
Those who voted for President Tinubu celebrated across the country and spoke highly of what the president will bring to the country. He was addressed by numerous monikers: cajoling the supporters of Atiku and Peter Obi. They also told the supporters and voters of Atiku and Peter Obi to watch him do magic to turn around the misfortunes of Nigerians.
Chimamanda Adichie frayed the West for congratulating President Tinubu and narrated in a long essay how the election was rigged and how congratulating the President takes away the honour left of the West.
She declared that even though she supported Peter Obi, her essay was not that of envy but to reflect the many problems facing the country, which election rigging contributed to.
Into the two years of President Bola Amed Tinubu, those who voted for the president are crying and announcing their withdrawal of support.
The Nigerians who spoke out said they regret voting for the president, while some confessed and asked to be forgiven for fighting for the president and doing his bidding.
President Bola Amed Tinubu is known for unexplained wealth and the niche for using money to buy anything he wants.
Prior to the APC national convention, the President was told by his party members that he wouldn’t become the flag bearer of the party, saying that they had reached the decision to have a consensus candidate, but President Tinubu disagreed and bought his way through.
The president was also accused of sharing dollars in bags during his party’s national convention, and the amount of money he shared was outrageous to the point other delegates betrayed their candidates and voted for the president.
Those who voted for the president or supported him in the general election were accused of mortgaging their future. The president paid huge sums of money for votes, and he rightly bought enough votes and enough influence to rig the election, according to the opposition.
After the election, the president was found boasting that nobody helped him during his election and that he used his hard-earned money to fight for victory. The president further said he answers to no one and would not listen to anyone, which further sidelined his voters and supporters.
By confessing that he bought his electoral victory with his hard-earned money, the president owns nobody, including his voters and supporters.
“The president has proven that he cannot handle Nigeria; we were managing Nigeria before he came and scattered everything. This is not what I voted for; I voted for the Tinubu of Lagos, and not the Tinubu of hardship and hunger,” Ola, a supporter, said while declaring he is no longer a supporter of the president.
“I cannot wait for the next election to come; we need a serious change. I made a mistake by supporting Tinubu, and I withdraw my support. I will vote for another candidate if the election is called today,” Mrs. Oby said.
Since President Tinubu assumed office, the country has been faced with hunger and hardship due to his policies. Even as people struggle to get out of the problem, the president’s actions keep making matters worse.
Fuel is now sold above N1100, while the exchange rate is projected to reach N2000.
The point is that both those who supported Tinubu and those who voted for him are suffering with those who didn’t vote or support him. The only difference is conscience; those who opposed Tinubu have a clear conscience, while those who voted and supported him have a guilty conscience.
It’s harsher to live in a bad situation with a guilty conscience than it is to live with a clear conscience. Those who voted and supported Tinubu live in regret of their actions, while those who opposed him have room to endure.
