President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has reacted to the murder of Yevgeny Prigozhin, the Russian warlord that led the deadliest and longest battle in Bakhmut against his country. Despite inflicting the most notable pain on Ukraine, the death of Prigozhin seems to be a blow to the Ukrainian President, as he coldly reacted to his murder – he wanted internal detractor in Russia.
“I think everyone is aware of who is involve” The President said when addressing the public.
Prigozhin led a failed mutiny against Putin, the biggest challenge he had faced since his twenty three years rule. It was one of the surprising things that happened in Russia, Prigozhin dared the man everyone is afraid of and remained in Russia until his business jet was reportedly shot down in Moscow, soon after taking off for St Petersburg.
Problem began while Prigozhin and his private army were in Ukraine fighting on the side of Putin. He criticized Russian military leadership for their incompetence and blamed them for the deaths of his fighters. He soon became outspoken and boldly, but verbally confronted the military leadership. His protest in the battlefield changed the dynamics of the war, even though it was not immediate. After his verbal protest was turned down and nothing changed, he decided to move his fighters against Moscow, taking control of Rostov and advanced to Moscow.
He was attacked but responded by taking down several helicopters that tried to stop him. It took a deal brokered by the President of Belarus to stop the mutiny. The deal afforded Prigozhin the opportunity to go on self exile with his fighters, but soon after, the deal changed and Prigozhin stayed back after the failed mutiny, cutting a defiant figure.
Putin described the action of Prigozhin as stab in the back of Russia, and the mutiny disorganized Russian war in Ukraine. It was a loophole Ukraine needed to take control of the war, because Russian soldiers had to be recalled to deal with internal uprising – creating two fronts for the army that faced strong counter-offensive.
Nobody has ever challenged Putin the way Prigozhin did for more than two decades and it was what Ukraine wanted. Wagner fighters were withdrawn from the battle front in Ukraine, but Russian government pretended their withdrawal didn’t affect their military operation. Ukraine was motivated by the withdrawal, at a time they were launching their counter-offensive.
Prigozhin cleared himself and said he never wanted the government of Putin, but only protested the incompetence in the military leadership of the country. In what appears like peace has restored, Prigozhin changed mission, completely switched from Russian war in Ukraine to military operation in Africa.
Exactly two months after, the wagner boss was killed in his private jet, and Russian President has been accused of murdering the warlord, an accusation the government of Putin called “absolute lies”. Ukraine benefited off the failed mutiny and was not seen as culprits in the murder, which the President also confirmed.
“We are not involved in this situation, that’s for sure” the Ukrainian President said on Thursday. He further keyed into the popular belief that Putin was behind the murder of his fighter for the mutiny he carried out against him.
