Following the crisis in the state earlier reported by Dailytab24 on Tuesday as protesting youths loyal to Fubara protested against chairmen who refused to leave their offices.
This is coming after a renewed political crisis, as former council chairmen have refused to vacate their offices despite their tenure having expired.
These chairmen vowed to remain in office after their three-year tenure expired on Monday , citing the Local Government Amendment Law 2024 enacted by the Martin Amaewhule-led House of Assembly.
Mr Siminalayi Fubara, the governor of Rivers State has now appointed caretaker chairmen for the 23 local government areas in the state.
The appointees were submitted to the state House of Assembly, headed by Speaker Victor Jumbo, on Tuesday.
Governor Fubara’s action is seen as an attempt to ensure continued governance and stability at the local government level.
The Clerk of the House, G.M. Gillis-West, issued a statement on Tuesday night confirming the governor’s communication.
The statement also invited the nominees for screening by the assembly, scheduled for Wednesday at 8am.
