I will pay the price for my supporters attacking LGA secretariat- Fubara says
“If it costs us our life to stand on the path of truth, we will go, and I will be the one that will pay this price” proclaimed the Governor of Rivers Fubara whose political issue with his predecessor reached a new height in the State.
Problem escalated after the supporters of the Governor attacked the Local Government Secretariat to evict Local Government Chairmen loyal to Nyesome Wike.
Wike handpicked Fubara as his successor in the State, but his plan failed to yield expected result as his successor quickly turned against his dictates in the State.
The Governor through a competent court secured a ruling that pronounced the termination of the Local Government Chairmen, the Chairmen refused to leave their offices.
“We have directed the head of local governments to be in charge as we await further instructions,” he said regarding the issue.
The Governor is determined to filter the government of elements loyal to Wike, to enable him have total control of the State.
His supporters stormed Local Government secretariat to forcefully evict the council Chairmen, leading to significant chaos and reported fatalities.
His supporters reported that police and other security agents opened fire on them, but fatalities were not immediately reported.
The Governor admitted that he is concerned about the “unfortunate” happenings across the councils of the State.
He has been accused of planning the chaos in the State by pro-Wike camp. They said he has been planning to forcefully target the council Chairmen with his supporters.
Acoording to his critics, it’s dangerous to take the gamble with supporters, because the matter could descend into a public unrest in the State.
There is no evidence that linked the Governor to the unrest. But it is a usual strategy used by politicians in Nigeria to drive home cause that sometimes want to paint as public stance.
The Governor went further to play the victim card, by stating Wike camp is planning for retaliation, but promised to stop them in their push to “destroy” the State.
“We are also aware that our enemy is also planning a lot of things. We will not go into a place where we will allow them to destroy the state”
I am also aware that there is a grand plan to arrest some of our supporters, this time around, you have to pass through me to arrest them,”
“I don’t think there is anything that any of those people following us have done other than standing on our side.”
If it costs us our life to stand on the path of truth, we will go, and I will be the one that will pay this price,” he vowed
The law is the law; the law has said that there is no extension of tenure. The court said so. Whoever is assuring anybody otherwise, advise them to desist from it, because peace is what we need for the state.”.
Governor Fubara however pledged his commitment to maintaining peace and order, stating, “This is to assure everyone that whatever it takes to make sure that we maintain peace and order, I stand by it
