How Russia is intimidating US with nuclear war threat
As nuclear-powered ship make it to Cuba, a country that is not far from United States, it was clear somebody was bring death at the backyard of US.
The intention of the Russian Federation is solely to intimidate United States who has taken unexpected stance against Russia’s war in Ukraine.
US lifted restrictions it previously placed on Ukraine concerning how they use the weapons in aids to the embattled country.
Russia saw it as significant threat to allow US weapons target its military in Russia and elsewhere. A significant shift from initial policy that kept Russia coolheaded.
Now, Russia’s Admiral Gorshkov frigate and the nuclear-powered submarine Kazan, accompanied by a tug boat and a fuel ship, have arrived in Cuba for a five-day visit, the move is a significant message being passed to United States.
Cubans of all class gathered along the Malecon seafront boulevard in Havana to welcome the fleet as it entered the city’s harbour on Wednesday. They showed no fear, as most saw the arrival as a thing of beauty and new experience.
Cuba saluted the vessels’ arrival with a 21-gun salute, while Russian diplomats waved small Russian flags and made sure that they get a glimpse of the nuclear-powered ship, and also to have enough pictures on the internet for United States to see.
Enroute to its ally, the four Russian vessels conducted “high-precision missile weapons” training in the Atlantic Ocean. A move meant to draw significant attention that from Cuba, we can attack you.
Russian ministry of defence noted that the submarine and frigate are equipped with Zircon hypersonic missiles, Kalibr cruise missiles and Onyx antiship missiles. The training was effective and a preparation for eventuality.
Vladimir Putin has engaged in strong rethorics of pressing a nuclear button should the existence of Russia be threatened.
He has not narrowed down to what acts constitute a threat to Russia’s existence. He has also said if NATO directly gets involved in Ukrainian war, it could amount to using its nuclear weapons.
Havana lies just 160 kilometres (100 miles) from Key West in the southern state of Florida where the US has a naval air station.
“The warships are a reminder to Washington that it is unpleasant when an adversary meddles in your near abroad,” Benjamin Gedan, director of the Latin America programme at the Washington, DC-based Wilson Center think tank, told The Associated Press news agency, in reference to US and European involvement in Russia’s war in Ukraine.
“It also reminds Russia’s friends in the region, including US antagonists Cuba and Venezuela, that Moscow is on their side,” he said.
Moscow is trying to stamp its influence and authority on its allies. And obviously telling US that they can do what they do with their allies.
United States has said that they are monitoring the situation and not worried with the arrival.
US sees the arrivals as more of exhibition and show of grit from Russia, who is troubled by the recent success Ukraine has had since restrictions against use of US weapons were lifted.
