Shots fired by South Korean army increases tension with North Korea
Dailytab24.
Koreas appear to be heading for war if tension is not managed wisely.
The tensed countries have had provocations in recent weeks, with North Korea seen as the aggressor, sending more than 1000 balloons of dirt to South Korea.
The balloons filled with rubbish were meant to intimidate South Korea, after North accused it of military provocation.
Earlier, South Korea conducted a military drill with its main backer United States. North Korea said the rubbish sent to South was retaliation for the drill.
South warned North about the balloons, but the warning did not stop further balloons across the border.
North is adamant that South is responsible for the provocation and warned that there would be military consequence if South continues to provoke the North.
A counter claim from South Korea blamed North of provocation.
North continues to aspire, and sometimes claim to be a nuclear weapon capable country.
They have continued to test launch intercontinental ballistic missiles with intention to intimidate South Korea.
Tension heightened at 12.30 pm local time in North Korea on Sunday when a cell of North Korean forces trespassed the Military Demarcation Line within the DMZ.
The incident was reported by Yonhap news agency – referencing a public statement from the Joint Chiefs of Staff.
The statement indicated that as soon as North Korean soldiers crossed the Military Demarcation Line, South Korean forces issued a warning over its loudspeaker and fired into the air.
The shot was meant to push back the soldiers that trespassed.
Soon after, the trespassed soldiers withdrew to the other side of massively fortified border.
The warning and the shots indicated that further advance would be halted. The intention of the trespassed soldiers remains unclear.
North Korea has not reacted to the incident, but over time, Kim Jong Un has attempted actions to rattle South Korea.
Tension keeps rising, and the shot is only but the latest of what began a few weeks ago, when rubbish was sent in a balloon across the border.
South Korea has used propaganda loudspeaker broadcast to respond to North Korea’s military antics or threats.
South had stopped its loudspeaker broadcast in 2018, but resumed it recently.
The resumption of the loudspeaker broadcast could be the motivating factor behind the trespass.
“This is a prelude to a very dangerous situation” the powerful and influential sister of Kim Jong Un said, while also noting the loudspeaker broadcast is a recipe for “crisis of confrontation”.
The loudspeaker broadcast is extremely disturbing to Kim.
Every dictator hates voice of reason that challenges its rule.
The last time South Korea restarted the broadcast, North Korea fired artillery rounds against South Korea.
The rounds ended after South responded, with no casualties reported on both sides.
Analysts say that the loudspeaker broadcast demoralise North Korean troops on the frontline.
The broadcast goes beyond the troops due to the nature of the message which tends to stir the people against Kim.
The message is specifically targeted against Kim – to weaken its grip on power and instigate the people against his rule.
With a destabilized North Korea, Kim Jong Un could lose his grip on power, and that is the situation he fears most. Thus ready to confront South is propaganda broadcast persist.
