6 chosen – Iran bars former President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad from presidential contest
Dailytab24.
Iran was forced to announce emergency election as soon as former President Ebrahim Raisi and seven others died in helicopter crash.
The election is meant to find a new leader that would replace the former President, unlike democracies around the world – where a deputy takes over and finishes the term of a dead President.
The election was announced by Iran’s Guardian Council, and approved the contestants on Sunday.
Iran is a country ruled by a dictator who has hidden itself in upper echelon of the country’s leadership.
Iran has the position of a Supreme Leader, occupied by Ayatollah. The position is faith-based and the Supreme Leader is responsible for decision making in the country.
Six people were approved to contest for the position – and the six are hard-liners. Hard-liners are those that believe in destruction of Israel.
The council is well primed and positioned under the control of the Supreme Leader who decides who appears on the ballot in the shadow of Guardian Council.
The election is coming on June 28 – Iranians will be able to choose another President. The election is poised to be another show of discomfort or rejection of the Ayatollah, who has separated Iran from the West and led to numerous sanctions that have significantly crippled the economy of the country.
Low turnout is expected in Iran – a form of referendum against the country’s leadership.
The death of the late President is largely as a result of the sanctions against the Middle-East country – which has denied them parts for the maintenance of its presidential helicopters and planes.
The helicopter transporting the President crashed – sanctions means they cannot buy improved models of the helicopter or get the parts for maintenance.
Ayatollah barring of the former President is to continue its hard-line trajactory and avoid upset of his age long policies that had destroyed Iran’s economy.
The hard-liners are firmly positioned to abet and sustain his policy of terrorism championed by the Supreme Leader.
Former President Mahmoud is a staunch populist whose reelection led to 2009 crackdown.
His policies are the yearnings of majority of Iranians, and barring him is a blow to the Iranians that desire a political change in the country.
The election will be conducted in a short time. With two weeks of campaign – it’s clear the Supreme Leader will choose whom he wants to replace the former President.
While election will be done, majority of Iranians are expected to stay back at home, knowing that their votes cannot count.
Ayatollah’s protégé will be declared the winner of the election – a move that will be a like-for-like replacement of former protégé.
The hard-line parliament speaker of the country’s parliament is expected to replace the former President.
Mahmoud has proven to be a worthy replacement, who met the requirements of the Supreme Leader.
The Vice-President is another option for Ayatollah, but it’s left to be seen whom he chooses between the two.
The election will go beyond the seat of the President as age is not fully on the side of the Supreme Leader who is also shopping for his replacement in a case of death.
The death of President Ebrahim has given the Supreme Leader a job, because Ebrahim was a long trusted protégé that had taken over his Supreme Leader position in a case of death.
