Senator Ifeanyi Uba: What caused his death, and why are his tribe’s men celebrating

Background

Senator Ifeanyi Uba, 52, is a senator representing Anambra South and has become a notable name in politics since joining politics more than a decade ago.

The Senator was lastly elected under the platform of the YPP party, a party that is barely known in the country.

He used his influence to secure victory in his senatorial district against heavyweight parties like PDP and APC.

He initially started with PDP before switching party after he could not get the support of the party leaders.

He contested for the governorship seat of Anambra State twice but failed.

He was seen as the first Nnewi man who would occupy the governorship seat of the state in this coming election.

He swiftly decamped to APC after winning his last senatorial election. His decamp was ostensibly planned to give him the established platform and national party platform to contest the coming election against Soludo.

His Death

His death was announced today, 27th of July. It was the first news that circulated and trended today in Nigeria. Most Nigerians were filled with grief but not most of his tribe’s men.

The cause of his death has not been officially made public, but from the information gathered so far by Dailytab24, we know he slumped while in London and died in coma.

After his slump, he was rushed to a hospital where he stayed in a coma until he was pronounced dead by doctors.

Cause of Death

Ifeanyi Uba had been vigorously preparing for the Anambra State  governorship election participation.

He had been widely consulting and speaking to his allies that he would contest against Governor Chukwuma Soludo.

“He was preparing with a determination never seen before. His ward Chairmen in his senatorial zone are meeting, and we have heard the whispers of contesting- being the flag bearer of APC” a source within his political circle disclosed to Dailytab24

“He was already boasting that he would clinch the APC ticket. The governorship election was the main reason he decamped APC, and he had been consulting with the APC leadership. If you look at the Anambra State APC, you will see there is no one that is as highly connected as him. So, there was this confidence, and everything geared towards the election, ” the source continued.

PremiumTimes reported that a source from his family disclosed to them that he has not been giving his health due attention due to his election plan, but our source gave contradicting information.

“I don’t know who said that, but Senator Ifeanyi Uba prioritized his health. He was conscious of his medications and have been visiting his doctor. So, there was nothing like abandoning his health, ” the source said.

The Senator increased his schedule since he decamped to APC, and he stepped up plans to ensure he contested under APC.

“Soludo is not doing well. Taxes and anti-people policies gave the Senator a belief that he could go out there and win the governor,” the source continued.

Doctor’s Verdict

Speaking on health related issues surrounding the death of the Senator. A doctor who spoke with our correspondent said it’s unethical to jump into the conclusion of what caused his death.

“It’s necessary to get the doctor’s report first and foremost before I can officially comment on the death of the Senator. This is a high-profile person, and it would be unethical for me to jump in, ” the doctor said on the condition of anonymity.

“Stress is a present factor in how he died, but can not be the cause of his death. There are a good number of diseases that could cause a healthy person to slump and die, like Congenial heart disease, coronary artery disease, heart attack, long QT syndrome, heart valve disease, pulmonary embolism, diabetes, epilepsy, heart arrhythmia, stroke, myocarditis, etc.

“But what you must know is, stress itself doesn’t kill, but it could cause damages to you that could lead to cardiovascular issues that suddenly kill,” a doctor concluded.

Public Verdict

It’s being debated in the public space if the Senator was ill before leaving for the UK. The debate can not be concluded because nobody discloses his health status to the public.

“The Senator often goes to London for medical checkups. I can not rightly say he travelled to London because his health had deteriorated. He usually travels to the UK, so I would say it’s a sudden death that could happen to anyone. ” The source within his political circle concluded.

Since the report of the death of the Senator, there had been what could be best described as a celebration from a segment of the public, precisely from his tribe.

In the morning, when the news of his death was broken, Simon Ekpa, the self acclaimed substitute of Nnamdi Kanu, trended.

The followers of Simon Ekpa attributed his death to the efforts put by Simon Ekpa spiritually, while others said the Senator was afraid and died because of the pressure mounted on him by Ekpa.

Link with Nnamdi Kanu

Others said that the Senator’s private plane was used to rendition Nnamdi Kanu to Nigeria and blamed him for the predicament of the imprisoned IPOB leader.

Nnamdi Kanu was renditioned to Nigeria from Kenya after he was picked for jumping bail.

The IPOB leader is fond of blaming Igbo political leaders for his inability to restore the sovereignty of Biafra.

A flyer that said “I will be your end” with pictures of Ifeanyi Uba and Iwuanyawu, Ohaneza Ndi-Igbo President who died recently tagged alongside it.

IPOB members have significantly taken to social media to celebrate his death. They said the Senator is the reason Nigeria is suppressing Biafra.

“Serve Nigeria and come back with shame,” a comment said on the IPOB WhatsApp group with the picture of the Senator.

       His People React

Others are pained that a political leader died, with few praying that the news should be untrue when it was first broken.

His family and political allies are mourning him, with his village in Nnewi and entire Nnewi in grief.

The Senator is a darling in his hometown and had spearheaded war against insecurity in Nnewi.

His football club will miss him, and it could be the beginning of a transition they are unsure of.
