‘How To Become A President In Nigeria’
Peter Obi is the perfect example of how not to become a President in Nigeria. It doesn’t matter the public support you have, becoming a President in Nigeria needs strategic support of the key players in different regions of the country.
A third world country has problem with sanity and rule of law. There is hardly a political upset, because corruption makes due process hard to be applied in all affairs of the country.
Last election proved that number is not the key to becoming a president in Nigeria. There must be a concensus among few political heavyweights, to qualify one to become a President.
It was President Bola Amed Tinubu’s turn and he knew clearly it was his turn. He stood his ground because he had paid his dues.
He served diligently and contributed massively to the success of the outgoing President, so, he indeed positioned himself to be in line for the next – turn.
He was the main factor responsible for Buhari’s success and he rightly had something on his mind – to takeover from Buhari once he finished his tenure. Little wonder he insisted it was his turn and nobody could do anything about it.
Some APC prominent members at a point decided to flip the ticket against him, but his commitment to making Buhari prevailed.
He stood his ground and reminded Buhari that it was his turn, and nobody can take it away from him.
So, invariably, Nigeria’s presidency ascension is turn by turn. What one must do to stand in line for the turn is crucial. It doesn’t take travelling and siding with Nigerians, after all, Tinubu was the most hated candidate, so, who voted him in?
Peter Obi has the number of electorates, but lacks the number of kingmakers. Kingmakers are more important than electorates. Kingmakers are scattered in all regions of the country.
For example, it took only Wike to win Rivers for President Tinubu. The electorates were all for Peter Obi, but the kingmaker was for Tinubu. It’s even easier having the electorates and the kingmakers. Everything will go smoothly.
Settling for vice president under Atiku will be a prominent step for Peter Obi’s political success. He must swallow his pride and embrace service – ‘boy boy’ concept of Igbo race to achieve political success in Nigeria.
Atiku has shown that he values Peter Obi, and with the result of last election, a merger can mount significant challenge against the incumbent President.
The number Peter Obi commands is huge, but that number cannot win election. That number needs to be merged with another to win election.
Obi has to be patient and shouldn’t listen to the public who are prone to political miscalculations. The public keep pushing him to be independent, but that push is futile. He needs to lias with others and reach compromise where necessary.
He should compromise to become the vice President under Atiku. By so doing, he elevates Atiku, and after eight years, gains a significant shot at becoming the President of Nigeria.
To become the President of Nigeria comes with service, patience and planning. He has to be strategic in his aspiration. There is never a time he can jump into the position, and neither can Obidients throw him in there. He needs to approach it step by step until he reaches his goal.
Starting with vice presidential position is a remarkable step that can guarantee him the apex office in a matter of 8years.
There is no gainsaying that he needs two third of the regions in Nigeria to become a President. Atiku is a regional factor that can guarantee a regional vote, and if they get along, why not make a compromise and achieve his political goal?
