Peter Obi Made Efforts To Save Labour Party From Collapse – Tanko
By Dailytab24.
At the brink of collapse as Peter Obi considers his options to leave Labour Party, Tanko has explained how Peter Obi’s effort to save the party from imminent collapse failed.
Not up to one year after losing the presidential election. The party that was seen as the new age party is falling apart.
The party faced internal crisis that was unable to be handled by the chairman, who ultimately chose his own cards over the cards made available by the presidential candidate of the party.
“When the issue of the national convention came up, Obi suggested to the national chaimrna that, because we are beigger now, we need to have a wider consultation. Meet with responsible and interested people such as the TUC and NLC, stakeholders, the Obidient group – young generation people who are interested in seeing Nigeria work, meet with leaders who have different ideas that can midwife us into a greater height” Tanko said about the convention of the party that led to significant disharmony.
Labour Party was not a party to be reckoned with until Peter Obi joined, leading the party to pockets of victories in different states.
The party also won Abia State governorship election, and secured House and Senate seats.
The party was given a breath of fresh air by Peter Obi, whose massive followings and Obidients movement increased the stakes of the party. But now, it appears nobody wants to sacrifice for the continuity of breath of fresh air Peter Obi injected into the party.
Internal crisis has become a cancer eating deep into the peace and future of the party. The cancer has been made terminal one by the selfish dispositions of the party chairman, who believes that there was a gang up against him and that he must do everything possible to save himself.
He failed to be open and understand the need of sacrifice, even if it involves him losing the party chairmanship to elongate the life of the party.
Peter Obi is someone that always wants peace and loves to collectively chase his dreams. He appears to understand the importance of casting the ground for competition, and believes competition can lead to getting the best in any given field. But Abure is in the negative when it comes to casting the field for competition.
The just concluded national convention of the party was not done in the manner Peter Obi wanted or advised the party leadership to do it.
“His Excellency, Peter Obi, made concerted efforts in trying to intervene at any given point we have this particular issue and trying to improve” Tanko noted. He further said that Peter Obi suggestions were practicalised when he met members of the National Assembly under Labour Party to discuss the convention. He also met the leadership of the party in other states.
Reacting to the efforts of Peter Obi, Tanko said that the national chaiman of the party decided to do something else, especially what pleases him.
Abure was more interested in securing his position as the chairman of the party and not doing what is necessary to hold the party together.
The move made by Abure to hold national convention without consultation deepened the divide in the party and led to Peter Obi indicating that he would leave the party for a party that shares his dreams of unity and collective efforts.
