Sheik Gumi’s Arrest Scare Ends On Friendly Note

After many years of taking significant side with bandits in the North, Nigerian security services finally gathered the morale to invite the fierce Islamic cleric who has stood profoundly with bandits, and has sometimes doubled as their negotiator and lobbyist.
“There was no animosity but courtesy and full of respect” the cleric declared before detailing what was discussed with the security agents.
Gumi trended once more after siding the bandits that kidnapped school children in Kaduna, he obviously tried to coerce the government to negotiate with the bandits and pay the demanded ransome. He has often shown extraordinary interest in his push for the bandits to be paid ransome, in what could easily be termed ‘associate role’.
“Yes, we had a productive interaction on how to cub banditry as we are all trying – each in his sphere – to tackle the monster bedevilling the country” he said.
Gumi continues to neglect calls from Nigerians for him to be investigated. He is adamant that he is doing what is right in backing the bandits and asking for their welfare. He also blamed the country for the banditry, often taking blames off the bandits.
In the past, he has been seen with the bandits who hold him in high esteem. Many analysts believe Gumi has somehow given the bandits the impetus to continue on their criminal adventure. There have been times he had visited the bandits and shared love with them.
There have been talks about the religious role of the bandits. With some Islamic clerics saying that Koran supports banditry. Gumi has often chided the government, discouraging anyone against attacking the bandits. He has also called on Nigerian army to abstain from bombing the wives and families of the bandits, that the government should instead negotiate for peace.
Touching or arresting Islamic clerics in the North could spell doom for the country. Gumi has attained a position in Islamic religion, where he could be placed in same breath as other top Islamic clerics. The cleric enjoys massive followings and is listened to.
News circulated of the invite extended to the cleric, with most Nigerians celebrating that the Nigerian Police has finally taken the decision to arrest the cleric. Nigerians believed that arresting the cleric would pass a clear message of strict approach to bandits and those that abet them.
The cleric responded to the invite and came back with a smile. Declaring that his invite ended on friendly note. He asked his followers not to worry, that he is fine and that discussion with the security was on how the problem facing the country could be stopped.
“Last night I got frantic calls from well wishers and journalists about a news item that I was interviewed by security, there was no cause for alarm” he said and further spoke about synergy.
“We all need as a nation to unite and work in synergy to achieve an everlasting peace” he said and thanked his well wishers and religious wards.
