65 Bodies Of African Migrants Found In Mass Grave In Libya
By Dailytab24.
While families are waiting for their loved ones that left African countries for Europe, the news coming from Libya must have left them in great turmoil.
According to United Nations Migration Agency, the 65 dead bodies are suspected to be the people trying to cross into Europe through Libyan desert.
Speaking on the issue, International Organisation for Migration opined they died enrout to Europe. Possibly in the hands of smugglers who are paid to smuggle migrants.
Due to the international attention on the matter, Libya quickly commenced investigation, but analysts believe Libya is not stable enough to tackle issue of migrants as they grapple with instability since the murder of Gaddafi.
The international organisation responsible for migrants have called on Libya to at least “ensure a dignified recovery, identification and transfer of the remains” as that is the berest minimum for the victims.
It would be almost an impossible task to ask Libya to find out those behind the smuggling, as the country appears to have given up on smugglers, who are rather induced by desperate migrants.
The international agency acknowledged the loved ones of the victims will be in perpetual grief as they wait endlessly for the return of their loved ones.
Having recovered the bodies, identification process would commence, but there is no assurance of successfully returning the remains to loved ones. The international organisation for migrants will definitely continue to follow up the matter to ensure a good conclusion.
Libya has found itself in dire situation since NATO led strike on Gadaffi’s convoy consigned him in a whole, where he was caught and murdered. The country has fictionalised its governance, making a unified government far fetched.
Tripoli’s Criminal Investigation Department has made efforts towards finding the identities of the victims. After flying a drone that showed the number of victims with markings, they confirmed blood testings to finding out their identities had begun.
The bodies were found at al-jahriya Valley in Al-Shuwairf town. About 266 miles South of Tripoli. The bodies have been buried in cemetery, under the order of attorney general of the appeal chamber Gharyan Town.
In Libya, smugglers are on a regular business, taking stipulated amount of money and crossing migrants to Europe. They often bundle them into a boat to cross the Mediterranean Sea. Most of them die on the sea while few others make it across.
The smugglers have been accused of abusing the migrants and sometimes murdering them after collecting everything they have. Libya host over 600,000 thousand migrants, all aspiring to cross into Europe.
Not all migrants are crossing through the Libyan desert for the sake of greener pasture. Some are escaping violence and government crackdown in their various countries.
European Union have tried to stop the large influx of migrants to Europe from Algeria, Egypt and Libya. This move has ensured large funds shifted to the countries to improve their maritime security and economic situation.
The idea has not worked, as migrants continue to troop into Europe. International Organisation responsible for migrants have called for a legal route for migrants, as death toll continue to rise. Thousands have died while crossing the Mediterranean Sea this year alone.
