From Goodluck Jonathan To Tinubu – Time To Hold Professor Wole Soyinka To Account
Invite By: Daily Tab24.
In every society, there are respectable people, and those respectable people have influence on the society in one way or another. Professor Wole Soyinka is one man Nigerians respect so much, not only because he distinguished himself in the literary field, but because he has grey hair all over his head, a synonym for wisdom.
Unfortunately, when a poor man bears grey hair all over, he is considered a sufferer, whose hair turned grey because of sufferings and menial jobs. Soyinka is prone to political error and miscalculations, or simply put, he buried patriotism for the sake of his pockets and connects.
Soyinka right from the beginning knows the importance of being close to power, as if former president Goodluck Jonathan denied him that closeness; he championed a protest that underscored the economic fall of the country.
Today, the grey hair he has invested so much to maintain seems to be a fashion than a synonym for wisdom. It would be right to assume the grey hair was not natural but product of a designated cream or expensive grey dye. We cannot underestimate the influence of the award winning professor, but can always underline the implications of his unpatriotic activisms – as the case may be.
It is clear and obvious that who championed the ouster of Goodluck Jonathan for Muhammadu Buhari didn’t put the interest of the country above personal interest; the antecedents of Muhammadu Buhari said it all.
Let’s presume Professor Wole Soyinka miscalculated or made a mistake by championing the election of Muhammadu Buhari, but championing the election of President Bola Amed Tinubu shows it’s deliberate other than mistake. One man pushed for the first error and the second error from time to time.
Professor Wole Soyinka has right to fundamental right of choice and expression. He also has the constitutional right to vote for any candidate of his choice, but he has no right to the moral judgment of his rights and expressions. We will do the assessment and critique, and it is a huge disappointment that the acclaimed celebrated Professor is lagging behind.
The product of Soyinka’s expression and choice is out, and we can vividly see that it’s against everything we dreamed or imagined, so, he should not relax in the comfort of his zone, but join in the effort to restore the lost dignity of Nigeria.
The Professor must be held to account. He should at least be able to explain to Nigerians the reason he pushed Jonathan off the cliff and gave us Buhari. He should explain to us why he can’t carry placards to fight the incompetence of President Bola Amed Tinubu. He should tell us why he fought because fuel was sold Seventy Five Naira but refused to utter a word now fuel is sold Six Hundred and Seventy Naira.
The grey hair Professor built a mansion and has made sufficient money. He has access to governments beyond Nigeria. He can maneuver and a square meal is guaranteed. The selfishness of our Professor is glaring and he feels nobody can hold him to account.
He cannot wrongly come out and help destroy Nigeria, only to run back to his hole like a rat and enjoy the warmth of his hole while Nigerians freeze to death. He should show humanity if he has any left of him and join the teeming Nigerians fighting to correct the errors he championed.
Even if he cannot come out to protest because Buhari and Tinubu didn’t give the security Jonathan gave him, he should from the comfort of his home, use his seasoned pen to fight alongside patriotic Nigerians.
He should confess his errors and ask for forgiveness and join the train of soldiers of salvation.
