Trump’s prosecution gives Putin a lifeline of morality

In Russia’s Pacific port city of Vladivostok, Putin said a lot, hinting on what he termed ‘persecution of Donald Trump’ and banking on it as a reason U.S. has no moral right to teach anybody about democracy. Putin often takes advantage of the slightest mistake of U.S. to attack it, this time; the bitter politics going on in U.S. is his focal point.

Addressing the Eastern Economic Forum’s plenary session, Putin used the opportunity to touch on a range of issues. He noted that what is happening in America is a sign of how corrupt the country is, while they invade other countries for the same thing they are masters at doing. Putin is a vocal type, especially when it comes to Western issues.

Putin has no recognizable or defined relationship with Donald Trump, but the two seem to be diplomatically conscious of steps they take. Putin may openly confess that the government of Donald Trump will not change U.S. foreign policy towards Russia, but cannot deny that Trump is not obsessed with Russia, and would not approach U.S. foreign relations towards Russia the way Joe Biden has done.

Russia was previously accused of interfering in the 2016 U.S. election that produced Donald Trump, leading to impeachment attempt. Russia denied any interference which was later confirmed by a special counsel appointed to lead investigation into Russian election collusion. Trump considered the allegation of Russian election collusion as a hoax, invented by the Democrats to derail his presidency and witch hunt him.

Nobody could establish evidence of any relationship now and in the past that Trump had had with Putin, but the two leaders appear to always have a common ground on international matters. The ability of Trump to peacefully negotiate has rather been seen as active relationship with Putin, setting up conspiracy theory that Russia is working for Trump’s political success.

“As for persecution of Donald Trump, in the context of what is happening today, I would say it’s good thing” the Russian strongman said, while comfortably adjusting to continue his speech. “Why” he rhetorically asked.

“Because it shows that the America political system is rotten to the core, and cannot even begin of thinking to teach democracy to others. What is happening to Donald Trump today is nothing but persecution of a political opponent for political reasons, and nothing else. And they are doing it with the entire America nation and the whole world watching. They have exposed their internal problems to the world, and if they wish to take a stand against us in some way –it’s a good thing because it shows who they are – as they used to call it in the Soviet time – they have shown ‘the bestial face of America capitalism” he concluded.

Donald Trump faces 91 charges in four criminal cases, including mishandling of classified documents, conspiracy, conspiracy to defraud U.S. conspiracy to obstruct an official proceeding and racketeering. The charges if proved in a court would see Donald Trump spend hundreds of years in prison.

It is yet to be seen if the prosecution of Donald Trump is aimed to interfere with the 2024 presidential election or to have the 45th President of America spend the rest of his life in jail. Trump has decried that he is being attacked because he is the leading candidate in the election, emphasizing that had he not declared his intention to run and leading in the polls, the charges wouldn’t had surfaced.

Putin shares the sentiment of many Americans and Republicans who have chosen to stand by Trump irrespective of what charges are pressed against him.
