Chelsea and Liverpool fail to deliver again

Chelsea and Liverpool fail to deliver again

A pulsating draw, which is the only rhythm the both teams could afford. They lack scintillating performance, or they purposefully don’t want to give us that dazzling performance in this very fixture. Elsewhere, we can see that beautiful game of football from either of the teams. For a couple of seasons, this fixture has failed to produce a winner and on each trial, they lack everything they are known for.

Last week; the two teams were fighting crazily in the transfer market, Caicedo was the apple of discord, rightly deserving to be the apple of discord. Two teams in need of defensive midfielder overstretched and wanted the Ecuadorian strong man in the deep of a midfield, a desire that appears to peak for the two teams, and what could be the icing on their respective transfer cakes.

Chelsea have extended their financial scepter, to also magically conjure up the signing of the want-away Southampton midfielder who was valued at 50 million dollars. Lavia wanted Liverpool, but the team have faulted and shown lack of desire in securing the services of the young midfielder. Three bids from Liverpool rejected by Southampton, Chelsea are weighing in and ready to pay the price for Lavia without considering worth variations.

Speaking about the crazy transfer businesses that unfolded last week; Liverpool’s coach only pointed that Chelsea coaches always have what they want, indicating that Caicedo is taken and Lavia most likely to be taken if Chelsea really want him. The two teams know their seasons would collapse remarkably without a defensive midfielder; the draw at Stamford Bridge was evidence of two teams in dire need of a pivot player.

This fixture has become the most boring big boys’ fixture in England; when Gakpo gave an incorrect pass to Salah instead of shoot, it was already clear the day would go like others. Although, Salah managed to hit the crossbar, but by the time the last whistle was blown, it was the same old story, the score board does not lie. A couple of misses here and there and disallowed goals are the usual trends; the fight was not as fierce as the transfer market saga that played out a couple of days ago.

Even last season, the worst season of Chelsea Football Club since their blossoming in 2004, Liverpool FC could not take three points from them. Both managers would go back to their offices today to pick their phones and hasten the completion or search for a defensive midfielder. That is what both teams lack at the moment; their battles off the pitch will be renewed with greater intensity to save their respective seasons.

Mac Allister and Enzo were busy pushing forward and sometimes forgetting the traditional role of number six – a holding midfielder. They played more of their attacking midfield game than defensive game, where they were expected to dictate play, track down and do the dirty markings needed in the midfield.

It’s the first game of the season and if anything was learnt, it was the simple truth that without a defensive midfielder, both teams will not be able to compete with their peers in the league.
